Net-Zero Data Public Utility

A global centralized repository of company-level greenhouse gas emissions data.

Free. Transparent. Accessible to all.

Visualizations temporarily unavailable.

The NZDPU uses the IFRS Foundation's Sustainable Industry Classification System® (SICS®) because it groups companies based on their sustainability-related risks and opportunities.

The SICS® industry classification system is maintained by the IFRS Foundation as part of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards. If appropriate company identifier information is provided in the underlying data source, the NZDPU uses this, along with information provided by SASB, to determine an entity’s corresponding SICS® sector.

Visualizations temporarily unavailable.

The NZDPU is designed to be integrated with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)’s Non-State Actor Zone for Climate Action (NAZCA). Therefore, the NZDPU uses NAZCA Jurisdictions for tracking purposes.

1Total

Scope 1 GHG emissions 2(million metric tCOe) reported to CDP for reporting year 2022 by companies listed on the NZDPU. Excludes Scope 1 GHG emissions values greater than 400 million  tCO2e.

2Global

GHG emissions including 2CO, 4CH, 2NO and F-gases from all sources, including agriculture and land use change. (source: CO₂, CH₄, and N₂O from Jones et al. (2024) - Calculated by Our World in Data and F-gases from Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR)).

Methodology: Emissions covered by NZDPU only include Scope 1 GHG emissions of the companies listed on NZDPU. They exclude all indirect GHG emissions to eliminate double counting. Total global GHG emissions include emissions from agriculture and land use change. Total global GHG emissions cover the 2022 calendar year. Company GHG emissions currently cover reporting year 2022.

NZDPU Governance

Overseen by the Climate Data Steering Committee, which exists to ensure delivery of public good outcomes, the NZDPU seeks to become an open centralized global repository of company-level greenhouse gas emissions data that is free, transparent, and accessible to all.

Collaborators

The NZDPU aims to establish interconnectivity and data integration mechanisms with third-party climate data solutions and platforms in the global climate data ecosystem.
